Vintage Bath Tubs

tub 015.jpg

Earthenware tubs are made from fired clay that is covered with an off-white glaze. Often, the glaze stops at the rim and the body remains bisque, to be painted later. Faucetry is set outside through the floor or through an adjacent wall. These tubs are known for their elegance--and their weight.

Cast iron tubs are glazed on the inside and unfinished iron on the exterior. The better ones have wide, flat rims and the best ones are also double ended, with drains in the center. "Best Quality" also used "standing hardware", with the overflow incorporated into the drain tube.
